This has been a breakout year for CBD and this explosive market continues to grow. CBD went from tiny niche market to big business almost overnight. On a CNN special about the potential medical properties of marijuana by Sanjay Gupta some years back, Gupta discussed how a compound present within both marijuana and hemp demonstrated unusual benefits for children with certain types of epilepsy. Other people in the science and medical fields discussed other potential benefits. This started a stampede of interest by consumers as they seek out the best CBD oil products.
In just a few short years CBD has emerged as an incredible lucrative niche within a niche in the fast growing marijuana space. In just a few years dozens, maybe even hundreds of new CBD products have come to market from CBD oil concentrates to sprays to vape products to cosmetic creams and much more.
Consumers are spending big bucks on CBD products with much of the sales occurring online. The Brightfield Group estimates the CBD market will exceed $22 billion over the next 4 years, creating enormous business opportunities for small entrepreneurs and large companies alike.
CBD is one of over 100 cannabinoids present in both marijuana plants and industrial hemp. It is no psychoactive meaning it will not get you stoned although many people who have used it indicate they feel reduced anxiety, more relaxed and sleep better when using the compound.
CBD extracted from hemp are turned into products that usually contain less than 0.3 percent THC, the cannabinoid that gets people high. Most CBD products currently available are derived from industrial hemp. The is a debate within the industry and within scientific communities as to whether CBD from hemp is as beneficial as CBD from the full cannabis flower containing higher amounts of THC. Some state they believe that CBD from cannabis with all of the cannabinoids present produce a so-called âentourage effectâ producing much greater health related benefits. It is sort of like the argument that eating a whole carrot is better than taking a beta-carotene supplement. Much research is needed.
In the meantime, consumers are hungry for CBD products as sales soar.
